Principe Real

By Annabel Parsons

5th coolest neighbourhood in the WORLD, as voted by Timeout magazine in 2018. With its amazing viewpoints, hipster friendly concept stores as well as trendy bars and restaurants its easy to see why it ranked so highly.

VIEWS

Take the ELEVADOR DA GLORIA from the square RESTAURADORES up to the MIRADOURO DE SAO PEDRO DE ALCANTARA. This will bring you from our neighbourhood of BAIXA up to the beginning of PRINCIPE REAL, starting with the viewpoint ! If you want to be a true Lisboeta you will be walking up CALCADA DA GLORIA and not taking the elevator…admiring the street art on the walk up and flashing a smug smile to the F****** tourists in the elevator as they go by.

Once you have reached the viewpoint grab a refreshment from Kiosk ! We suggest a crisp Portuguese green wine “Vinho Verde” in the summer, and a rich red wine from the Douro Valley in the winter, if its a bit chilly just ask for a blanket from the Kiosk.

EAT

Principe Real is a cultural melting pot full of flavours from around the globe. Sample some Ceviche at CEVICHERIA, pop into MISS JAPPA for some sashimi and Sake, grab a curry at CHUTNIFY, dive into a pizza at ZERO ZERO or try some Iranian specialities from CAFEH TEHRAN. Or if you want a more Portuguese vibe head to FAZ FRIO or TAPISCO to taste the national flavours.

SIP

PAVILHAO CHINES is running for over 30 years and is a local favourite. Sip on one of our favourite cocktails “Balalaika”, and enjoy the bar/museum vibes, play some pool on their vintage table and inspect the endless walls of cabinets full of antique WW1 and WW2 toys and artwork.
